The Ocular Microbiology and Immunology Group (OMIG) is a group of physicians and scientists who, at their annual meeting, presents new information about bugs and drugs for the ophthalmic community. A mailing goes out to all members to update their membership information, RSVP for the annual meeting, and offer the opportunity and guidelines for abstracts to be submitted for inclusion in the program. A typical meeting will have 20 or more abstracts, and since 1995, one abstract is chosen for the Thygeson Lecture, in honor of Dr. Phillips Thygeson. The program itself is just prior to the annual meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and routinely draws a reported 100+ attendees at the annual meetings.
